Lip FAQ

Will my lips be sore after treatment?

Lips can feel slightly tender for up to the first 48 hours and the colour will appear darker, this is completely normal. During the healing process lips may be a little flaky, but this will settle within approx 5 days, however you will be given some healing balm in your aftercare pack to help keep your lips soothed and hydrated.

Can lip treatment cause cold sores?

If you are prone to cold sores there is a small chance that treatment may cause an outbreak. If you take medication to help control cold sores, we would recommend that you start taking it 72 hrs prior to treatment and also for a further 7 days after treatment.

Are there any foods and drinks I should avoid after treatment?

We recommend that you avoid spicy and salty foods, alongside with citric based foods.

Pre Care Advice

Please avoid alcohol the night before treatment and avoid or reduce your caffeine intake on the day of treatment. If you take aspirin or blood thinners, you should check with your doctor that you are ok to stop taking these a few days before treatment.

Although lip tattooing does not cause cold sores, it can reactivate the virus, so we advise you to take anti-viral’s 72hrs before you appointment as a preventative measure.

Treatment can only go ahead once an allergy test has been performed and is deemed negative.

Aftercare Advice

We recommend that you avoid touching the area unnecessarily, some swelling and redness is normal and to be expected.

The colour will look darker immediately after your treatment, until the treatment has fully healed.

Gently bathe the lips as instructed, ensuring your hands are clean and apply the ointment to keep the lips hydrated. Where possible avoid getting the area wet and do not apply any other lip product or balms until the area has healed.

We advise you to drink using a straw for the first few days post treatment as well as avoid spicy and salty foods.
